Home Pest Control, Hints and Tips

The attempt to get rid of pests has been around as long as agriculture.

This industry is expanding at a phenomenal rate. In the last five years the home pest control business has increased by half, making it a $7 billion industry per year.

With increasing frequency, remote areas are being chosen for the construction of new housing. People want to live in the desert or the woods. For an insect or an animal termed a 'pest' it is you who is the intruder into their habitat and not vice versa. They only become pests because they come into YOUR home.

What is Pest Control?

Getting rid of unwanted pests is the ultimate goal. Structural home pest control refers to pests that invade your house or garden ,such as termites or fire ants, while insect pest control is the manner in which pests are controlled that take over your lawn. That can sometimes spill over into the house as well, but by and large, it's the garden we're talking about here.

Protecting the plants in your garden must be done in order to have healthy produce results. The problem is often overlooked until pests get out of control and the damage is severe. Well there are measures you can take to help eradicate the problem.

We are trying to figure out how to control the bugs in our garden.

Many people see gardening and home pest control as a do-it-yourself job. To some extent, it is fair enough. Determining the best pest control for your garden is much like getting a doctor's diagnosis, you need to know what is causing the problem, what to use to eliminate the pest and how to prevent further injury. Through surveys, it has been discovered that homeowners often don't read the instructions carefully or they alter them in ways they think will better solve their problem.

That leads to over-concentrated doses of insecticide for example which could be hazardous to your health and any visitors. Naturally, we are talking about chemicals, since chemical pest control remains the primary method used in modern pest control. However, that said, the long-term effects of chemicals has led to a renewed interest in traditional and biological pest control towards the end of the 20th century.

If DIY is not your area of expertise concerning that of gardening and pest control, consider the option of monthly visits from the local pest control company to keep garden troubles under control. One of the benefits of having monthly pest control is that somebody should be checking out your house and garden  on a regular basis for pest . Often homeowners are so worried about their homes becoming infested that they insist on monthly pest control treatments even when no problem exists.

The facts of pesticide use in the home and garden are very surprising:

1 Pesticides amounting to 67 million pounds are used on lawns each year.

2. Agricultural acreage consumes far less pesticide than suburban lawns do.

Think before you spray a pesticide. Be careful! Overuse of pesticides may damage the eco system and kill the very insects that are keeping your 'pest' numbers down This means you will have to spray more in the future. Insects can also help your garden grow because they pollinate your plants, helping your garden to expand. Don't use persistent, broad-spectrum, contact insecticides like diazinon, malathion and carbaryl. These provide only temporary pest control and are likely to kill more of the natural enemies than the pests. When the insects who prey on the pests are decimated, you will notice the quick revival of the pests and, lo, these plant eaters multiply faster soon after you had used the spray.

Most consumers also don't realize how potentially harmful they can be:

1 Pesticides can be tracked inside as an EPA study found 23 different kinds in the dust and air collected from inside someones home.

2. The US Geological Survey finds a large variety of chemical gardening products,  especially weed killers, in bodies of water near population centers, leaving no doubt that chemical products are harmful to the environment.

The question of going without such forms of pest control is a thought-provoking one.

Gardening and Natural Home Pest Control

The secret to gardening and pest control is to get the perfect balance of organisms in your yard. Not only is natural pest control safer and more environmentally friendly than artificial chemicals, it's even cheaper.

Some things that may help with pest control:

1 Physical controls - traps, barriers, fabric row covers or repellents - are often successful at controlling pests.

2 Attract good bugs by planting a variety of plants that provide pollen and nectar all year round.

3 By preventing pests from reaching your plants, you can avoid the damage they cause. When the number of pests is small, you can often get rid of the problem by simply taking them somewhere else.

In conclusion, many people face this same problem. Thousands of people across the world are also looking for pest control, so we hope this has been of help.
